On April 18, 2014, the Sapphire Valley Historical Society reached a significant milestone in the preservation of the historic Stone Basin / Wishing Well. Team members Lisa Stargel, Sharon Holt, Rick Stargel, and Katherine and Benny Price led a dedicated cleanup effort to reveal the site's original stonework.
To better understand the site's hidden engineering, the team conducted a video exploration of the drainage tunnel. The footage revealed a sophisticated design: the tunnel was constructed using stone blocks identical to those in the surrounding seating area. Most notably, the structure is capped by a single, massive carved stone, aligned with such precision that it has successfully barred dirt and root penetration for generations.
