Sapphire Valley Resort History

Sapphire Valley's Stone Basin Day 2

We found the basin has special alignment - True North. Additional research indicates the basin itself may be a Creek Indian relic over centuries and possible 1000 or more years old.
Records show Creek and Cherokee Indians occupied this section of Western North Carolina in the 1700 and early 1800's.

Sharon Holt, daughter Anna and Rick Stargel successfully removed over 30 years of ivy and organic matter to reveal the well preserved Stone Basin / Wishing Well!  What we discovered was a perfectly carved stone basin in the center of the seating area.
