1897 PLAT OF FAIRFIELD INN AND LAKE
A Rare Glimpse into the Past: The 1897 Fairfield Inn Plat
We extend our sincere gratitude to local author and historian Carol Bryson for her meticulous research in the Jackson County Courthouse Archives, which led to the recovery of the 1897 Plat of Fairfield Inn and Lake. This document offers a unique look at the original 19th-century layout of the estate.
The plat reveals a surprising architectural detail: the original entrance to the Fairfield Inn was situated on the lakeside. For those who frequented the Inn during the 1970s and 80s, this is a striking departure from the modern entrance we remember. Additionally, the map identifies a multifaceted utility hub—a building serving as the servant’s quarters, icehouse, and power station—demonstrating the Inn's early independence.
