1897 PLAT OF FAIRFIELD INN AND LAKE
1897 PLAT OF FAIRFIELD INN AND LAKE
Thank you to Carol Bryson, local author and historian, for finding this historic plat in the Jackson County Courthouse Archives.
Items to note include the entrance to the Inn was originally on the lake side! Many of us you used to frequent the Inn in the 70's and 80's remember the entrance on the other site. Also, in the middle right section, if you zoom in, you can see a building labeled servant's quarters - icehouse - power station!
Staff at the Inn would cut blocks of ice from Fairfield Lake in the winter, store them in block houses underground and covered with hay to use during the next season. In later years the basement of the Inn became the ice storage area. The power station is very interesting and was either powered via coal or a small water supply. (Larger image below)
